The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has a long history of concern and advocacy for the immigrant community. As we work with and minister to our parishes and schools we recognize that Church of immigrants so we take seriously the Gospel call to welcome the stranger among us.

  • To bring focus and continue to strengthen this important ministry, Archbishop José H. Gomez has created the Office of Immigration Affairs, which will be dedicated to this work. Archbishop Gomez has appointed Jaime Huerta, formerly associate director of the Office of Life, Justice and Peace, as director of the new office.

The USCCB Letter to congress on the Affordable Care Act dated January 18, 2017

“All people need and should have access to comprehensive, quality health care that they can afford, and it should not depend on their stage of life, where or whether they or their parents work, how much they earn, where they live, or where they were born.  The Bishops’ Conference believes health care reform should be truly universal and it should be genuinely affordable.” Read entire letter.

 A Prayer for World Peace

LORD, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what we believe to be right.

May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred.

We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a world emancipated from violence, a new world where fear shall no longer lead men to commit injustice nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others.

Help us to devote our whole life and thought and energy to the task of making peace, praying always for the inspiration and the power to fulfill the destiny for which we and all men were created.
